Winter's Back

I'm for that!

Old man winter is making a reappearance in the valley... it's about time thank you very much. Slacking Taking time off his job the past two months and leaving us feeling dreadfully neglected makes this past week's snow storm and the one predicted for tonight, a most welcomed remedy.

Because... in case you forgot, or maybe you didn't even know, there's a big party going on and you're invited!

a click on this photo will take you to your invitation. :)

Waiting For Something... Anything

To fall from the sky.

This is a welcomed sight come late April, not February 24.

We are waiting on a snow storm. Predictions are flying, upwards of 8-14 inches.  Any minute now.

Might as well keep busy 'cause the anticipation is driving us a little wacky. My best friend has decided to burn the slash left over from the power line clean up crew's visit last week. A perfectly good reason to play with fire. And to borrow Alex's flame thrower. And to eat marshmallows.

Any minute now...

Can you blame them?

Melting snow, unseasonably warm temps, and sunny skies.

No complaints from these barnyard friends.

Blue Skies Over My Head

Give me another reason to get out of bed
                                        ~Tom Waits

I need to go find my best friend. A Rayleigh scattering day like this will sure to brighten even a grumpy old guy.

I do hope it snows soon.

However, until it does... grab your hat baby.

Thanks Pops, life can be so sweet.

Double, Double Toil and Trouble; Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble

In the cauldron boil and bake
Eye of newt and toe of frog,
Wool of bat and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing, -
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

Getting a little cranky are we? Not too happy with Old Man Winter these days? Well dang, if that's going to keep us from tasting a little fun.

I want something sweet, something bright and something deep. So I'm boiling cider, two gallons of Cold Hollow's rack and cloth pressed fresh squeezed apple cider. And boiling and boiling until all that's left is an elixir thick as molasses and brilliantly tart (pucker up your cheeks tart). Yeah, this stuff taste old timey, rustic good. And to think I had never tasted this delight until last evening when a friend shared her roasted brussel sprouts tossed with a sparkling of boiled cider syrup (thank you, Nancy).

For dinner tonight I will drizzle this over butternut squash the last 10-15 minutes of oven roasting, I think they'll be good for each other. Till then my best friend and I shall cozy up to the wood fire and keep our spirits warm with a Thursday night Ciderhouse whiskey.

And we'll talk about the temperamental weather like the rest of the planet and cross our fingers Old Man Winter decides to settle down. There's no need to be conjuring up witches brew. Is there?

Double, double toil and trouble,
Fire burn and caldron bubble.
Cool it with a baboon's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.
